National Tree Day 2024: Planting in Wilwerwiltz

Under the patronage of HRH the Grand Duke Héritier, the Hëllef fir d'Natur Foundation launches its annual planting campaign on Thursday November 14.

Initiated by the Hëllef fir d'Natur Foundation in 1992, National Tree Day (JNA) is the annual launch of a fund-raising and awareness-raising campaign designed to encourage public and private bodies, as well as individual citizens, to plant trees and shrubs - essential elements for biodiversity in rural and urban areas.

This year, the foundation chose a plot in Wilwerwiltz as the planting site. At 11.45 am, after a welcome from Mr Yves Kaiser, Mayor of the commune of Kiischpelt, and speeches by Messrs Patrick Losch, President of the Fondation Hëllef fir d'Natur, Serge Wilmes, Minister for the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, and Michel Leytem, Director of the Administration de la Nature et des Forêts, everyone got down to work. A total of 17 trees of different species (apple, cherry, pear, plum, chestnut, field maple and lime) were planted, while cycle 3 of the Wilwerwiltz primary school took part by planting several hedges on the same site. These trees and hedges will play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity and combating climate change.

National Tree Day has become a not-to-be-missed annual event for all those who want to take concrete action against biodiversity loss, climate change and the protection of nature. We invite all interested citizens, associations and companies to join us on this special planting day. Every tree planted counts and contributes to the preservation of our environment.

For the official National Tree Day on Saturday November 16, more than 40 municipalities, associations and companies announced their actions, which are featured in the "Regulus special National Tree Day", a magazine published by Natur&ëmwelt and available online at www.naturemwelt.lu.
